Important Details: £900 Cost of Living Payment for Eligible UK Households

Introduction

Around eight million households in the UK are eligible to receive the third and final part of their £900 cost of living payment today. This payment, which is tax-free and does not impact current payments, was paid in three installments to individuals on certain benefits and Tax Credits.

Payment Details

The cost of living payment was divided into three chunks: £301 for the first payment, £300 for the second payment, and £299 for the final payment. The varying amounts were distributed to ensure accurate tracking of payments.

Payment Schedule

If you receive Child Tax Credit or Working Tax Credit without any other benefits, your payment should arrive between the 16th and 22nd of February. For other benefits, including Income-based jobseeker’s allowance, Income-related employment and support allowance, Income Support, Pension Credit, and Universal Credit, the payment will be made between February 6th and February 22nd.

To be eligible for the £299 payment, you must have been paid or be eligible for the specified benefits between November 13th, 2023, and December 12th, 2023.

Universal Credit

It is important to note that those on Universal Credit are entitled to this payment unless their Universal Credit payment was reduced to £0 for the entire period between November 13th and December 12th. This can occur if your earnings or savings increase, you start earning another benefit, or you receive multiple sets of wages within the same month.

Beware of Scammers

This cost of living payment does not require any applications. If you receive texts or emails inviting you to claim or apply for the payment, these are scams and should be ignored. The reference for the payment from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) will be 'DWP COL' along with your national insurance number. For Tax Credits-only recipients, the payment reference will be 'HMRC COLS'.

Conclusion

The cost of living payment is a valuable support for eligible households in the UK. It is important to be aware of the payment details, schedule, and eligibility criteria to ensure you receive the correct amount. Stay vigilant against scammers and remember that any incorrect payments may need to be repaid.
